The need for construction materials is an inevitable part of our lives. From building houses to more demanding infrastructure projects, it’s important that we work with the right materials at all times.

The materials used in building construction must be carefully chosen to ensure the building’s safety and long-term viability. Are you building? Renovating? Putting up an addition or two? This blog covers each and every type of best construction material for any job site!

Concrete

Concrete is the most frequently utilized man-made building material on the planet. For most projects that require foundations and flooring, there is no better material than concrete. Concrete is made of cement, aggregates, and water, however, the requirement for more durable concrete in today’s infrastructure has prompted the development of several necessary extra additives.

Concrete Additives

Concrete admixtures, also known as concrete additives, are key ingredients used to alter the properties of concrete. They are added as natural or synthetic chemicals or additives applied to fresh or hardened concrete to improve certain attributes such as workability, durability, or to manage the setting or hardening of concrete and to control its behavior. Concrete additives can come in powder or liquid.

Plasticizers

Plasticizers admixtures are mixed into concrete to make it more fluid or workable. Plasticizers are also known as water-reducers because they make concrete with the same workability but using less water and cement. They aid in the production of a durable concrete mix with the same water content.

Air-entertainment

Air-entrainment admixtures are used in concrete to intentionally introduce and stabilize small air bubbles. These admixtures, which are based on specific surfactants, cause tiny air bubbles of less than 0.3mm in diameter to stable within the cement paste. As a result of frost action, this air helps to keep the concrete from cracking and scaling. Air also improves mix cohesiveness, minimizing bleed water and aggregate segregation before the concrete sets.

Curing Compounds

The term “curing” refers to the process of keeping concrete’s moisture content and temperature stable. Curing enables continual cement hydration and, as a result, constant strength gains. Curing has a significant impact on the properties of hardened concrete; proper curing improves durability, strength, volume stability, abrasion resistance, impermeability, and freezing and thawing resistance.

There are also several other essential concrete additives.

Liquid waterproofing admixture and water-resistant latex bonding agent are used in concrete to improve the impermeability and water resistance in concrete.

Liquid surface hardeners and rapid concrete accelerators are substances used to speed up the early stages of concrete’s strength development, such as hardening, and may also speed up the setting of concrete.

Mold Release Agent might be the greatest method for preventing concrete from molding and corroding.

Concrete Repair

Corrosion, chemical and physical damage, water infiltration, seismic activity, and other factors can cause concrete to deteriorate. Concrete needs to be maintained. This is where concrete repair materials come in.

Surface Retarders, also known as surface “deactivators,” are a chemical treatment for concrete formwork systems, which react with the surface paste to retard the hydration of cement. Surface retarders are used to chemically delay the set of the surface mortar on new concrete.

Concrete repair mortars can be used to restore buildings, bridges, infrastructure, and superstructures, as well as to repair spalling and damaged concrete.

Corrosion protection, dust proofers, bonding primers, epoxy primers, and cementitious grout are used to restore appearance, structural integrity, increase durability, extend the structure’s longevity, replace defective concrete, and reduce concrete shrinkage.

Expansion Joint Solutions

Joint Sealants

Joint sealing is an effective and efficient technique that protects concrete or other substance joints in walls, floors, and roofs against cracking, corrosion, mold, and other moisture-related damage. They are used to seal joints and open apertures (gaps) between slabs, preventing air, water, and other environmental factors from entering and causing damage to the surface.

Wood Flooring

Epoxy Resin Floor & Wall Coating

Solvent-based, solvent-free, and water dispersed epoxy floor coating are made up of a thermosetting resin that is applied to wood flooring to improve its durability and appearance. These systems are inexpensive to build, simple to maintain, and long-lasting. They adhere to wood and with a very high gloss surface that no conventional paint can match, the floor will have a considerably more aesthetic appearance. It will also be waterproof, mold, and mildew proof. When set, a good epoxy floor coating is almost stain proof and makes cleaning a lot more enjoyable and easier.

Silica Sand

Silica Sand is the most important component in a wide range of building and construction materials. It acts as a functional extender, increasing the durability and anti-corrosion properties of surfaces. It works like magic with epoxy-based compounds and sealants. Grains graded silica sand is utilized in flooring compounds and mortar due to its impact on the binding system’s chemical characteristics.

Fillers

High-density fillers, low-density microlight filler, adhesive fillers, and thickening colloidal silica fillers are ideally used for floor coating due to their thickening, gap filling, filleting, and bonding properties. Added to epoxy, fillers increase their adaptability by changing consistency for certain uses. Each filler has its own set of physical qualities, however, they may all be classified as Adhesive (high-density) or Fairing (low-density).

Barrier coat additive, microfiber blend, and graphite powder can also be mixed and blended with epoxy to increase the moisture exclusion properties of cured epoxy and to provide a low-friction outer coating that is scuff resistant and long-lasting.

Glass & Aluminum Solutions

For glass and aluminum surfaces, structural glazing sealant and silicone sealant make ideal candidates for a variety of sealing and joinery applications. Applied correctly with a primer for silicone adhesives and sealants or universal cleaner solvent blend, they operate at full capacity.

Ceramic Tile and Marble

Adhesives

The Cementitious adhesive is especially well adapted to the interior and exterior fastening of ceramic tiles and other similar materials in permanently submerged or high-risk situations, such as swimming pools. The substance creates a strong connection and a watertight tiling surface and provides an excellent bond and a waterproof bed for tiling.

The Latex mortar adhesive is a two-part waterproof mortar that consists of a powder and a liquid component and is designed to offer permanent fixing for hard materials including ceramic tiles, stone cladding, slip bricks, glass mosaics, insulation, and acoustic boards.
